I think he has been sufficiently punished & I appeal to you if it is possible to enlist you in his behalf to intercede with the Governor to pardon Simon & let him come home I paid attorneys at his trial one hundred dollars to defend him & they now say if I will give them one hundred more they will get him pardoned I am poor and not able to pay it would do it in a moment if I felt able Simon hope to raise My wife worked for her & I feel sorry for him his old master is dead & has no one to look too as a friend but the - children he hope to raise I would not trouble you with this had I the money to spare to pay him out besides Simon has nothing he offers to work to pay me back what I may pay out but I think it has already cost him enough all I have said in regard to his
