These gentlemen occupied this important position they would discharge the duties of their officers with honesty, wisdom, and justice; and that they would do much to put down the opposition and prejudice that now exists, to some extent, against the Bureau and the negroes. One motive I have in recommending Mr Seawell is, that he would give more aid and encouragement in establishing a good school.

If I have been misinformed as to Capt. Steinburg's wish to be retired, I beg pardon for troubling you with this communication. However, I hope you will give this recommendation some consideration, and, if you think fit, make enquiry as to the fitness of the men recommended.
