I have been severely wounded, but am now so far recovered from the effects of my wound. as to be able to perform the duties required of an officer of my rank in the Corps,

I mentioned my intention of writing you to Col. Callis, and he informed me that if you should require any testimonials from him he was ready and willing to give them. I have been recommended to the Sec. of War for one of the vacancies in the new organization Gen. Cobb Rep. from Wisconsin made the recommendation.

Should it be so fortunate as to receive an appointment, I feel confident that my examination will sustain it. I was examined by a board of Officers in Washington for the position I now hold in the Corps. A report of the Board in my case together with the testimonials of the officers of the Reg't of which I was a member is on file in the War Dept. Any assistance you can render me consistently will be gratefully acknowledged
