Colonel,
I was waited upon yesterday by a Mr. Freedmen attorney he says for English owners of the steam vessels Mary, Gauntlet and Virginia, Messrs Montague, Foot, and others say that the claim represented by this man is not good. I do not know anything about it but when he told me that he was going to serve upon me a protest against the sale, I went to see Gen. Wood and he said "if they serve any protest or riot upon you refer them to me and I will take care of them and their British clients." 
This man goes to Montgomery today to see Gen. Swayne and have him make an endorsement upon his application to have the sale of the boats delayed until he (Turner) can go to Washington. 
If I were the General, I would not delay the sale of the boats, nor make any endorsement upon his application. I have been offered indirectly (by
