responsible parties sending me word) seventy five thousand ($75,000) dollars for the three boats as they now lay. I have received no bids as yet, but still think I will get bids to the amount of eighty thousand ($80,000) dollars for the three boats. My other sale will not amount to much as the property is all worn out and almost worthless, but will bring something.
I go over this morning to call upon the Naval Commander to see about appraisment of the boats by direction of Gen Wood. Gen Wood is very kind, and will afford every aid he can to help us to the property that reverts to the Bureau.
Any delay in the sale of the vessels depreciates their value, and the expenses daily accruing in their care, will soon amount to almost as much as they will bring at sale. I hope there will be no postponement. If there arises any just claims they can be adjusted at the Broker Bureau at Washington at any time. I have been exceedingly busy ever since I returned, and I am of the opinion that when Montague fairly gets out of office (he has not yet turned over) he can and will put one upon the track of more property that Bureau should have.

I have the honor to be Colonel
Very Respectfully,
your obt. Servt.
