I would respectfully recommend that the Home Colony located 7 miles from Montgomery, ala., be broken up. That the Stonewall Hospital near this city, which is Gov'mt property, be put in repairs, and that the inmates of the Home Colony be transferred to said Hospital
The houses at this colony are almost uninhabitable, to repair them would cost as much as to build new ones. The amount of fuel at present required to keep said houses tolerably warm is from 40 to 60 cords of wood a month. As the colony is about 7 miles from Montgomery and men, rations, and stores have to be sent there daily, several teams and wagons are constantly employed for that purpose. 
The Stonewall Hospital is situated one mile from Montgomery, in a salubrious locality, most of the houses are in good condition and afford accommodations for all of the inmates of the Colony. Some few buildings need repairing, two large buildings should be moved nearer to the center of the place, and the whole enclosed by
