Quite a number of years ago the people of this village, in part by voluntary contributions of money, and in part by the proceeds of a small grant of land made by the Congress of the U.S. purchased a square of ground & erected thereon buildings for a female school & occupied the premises for school purposes for a number of years - During the late war all Offices of the late Confederate forces took possession of the buildings for Hospital purposes - a portion of the trustees of the school who were apprized of the intention of the
