Camden, Jan 22, 1866

Dear Sir:
Enclosed you will find the names of several prominent citizens of this county, petitioning Gen. Swayne to appoint George H. Moye agent for that portion of said county lying east of the Ala River. We have thought it best to furnish you with the facts and request you to write the petition, append our signatures, and lay the whole before Gen. Swayne. It is hoped that that officer will see the benefits to be derived from the appointment of a citizen, especially one in whom the people place such implicit confidence. We would ask you, sir, to elaborate the subject to Gen. S., and give him the assurance that we want only exact justice to all men, white and black.

Very Truly Your ob't serv'ts
The Petitioners

Hon A B Cooper, Montgomery
