In regard to Mr. Godwin's murder, the facts as far as I can learn are these - 

Sergt. Major White 178" N.Y. vols was drunk two days after the above took place. He went into the store where Mr. Godwin resided and seeing Mr. Godwin with his arm in a sling (the wound occasioned by his accidentally cutting his hand with a knife) accused him of being accessory to the murder of the soldier. The man denied it, but the Sergt. Major shot him, the ball passing through his breast; he died in about ten minutes. The Sergeant Major was arrested by Lieut. Colonel Gandolpho and forwarded to Montgomery for trial.
I forbear to comment on the case, as of course the matter will be properly investigated by the authorities, and all the circumstances developed.
