Genl. Swayne

Although we are strangers to each other still we have been engaged in the same good cause vis to put down the rebellion, you as Genl and I as one of the Surgeons of the U.S.A.  As such I think where we can render each other any assistance we should do so, I wrote to Genl. Fisk of Nashville Ten - on the same subject, I intend to you - it is out of his division & he wrote me that he would refer my case to you - I did not know at the time but what he also had command of Ala. I now ask & solicit of you the appointment of Head of the Freedmans Bureau of Lauderdale County - I have letters & papers I could show you were I there from many of the most prominent Genls in our army - I will refer you in particular to Gen. Rouseau, Hugh Ewing, G.M. Dodge, I have papers from Genl. Sherman and Genl. Thomas & from Genl U.S. Grant. The first three know me well & will state I done all I could in the cause - I was arrested by the rebels & was confined by them until I was released by Genl. Granger who commanded
