Sir,
I have the honor to state that on the 27th day of October 1865 I forwarded to you, on an appeal, the papers in the case of J.J. Giers vs C.R. Gooch. No response from the appeal had ever been received. Recently a communication regarding the case had been received direct from the Commissioner at Washington, and Col. Callis is directed to examine into the case and, if satisfied with the correctness of the representation of Mr Giers transmitted in the communication, to set aside my decision.
I would therefore respectfully request that the papers in the case be returned with the decision of the Asst. Commissioner.
