Maj General Swain Dear Sir I take this opportunity of Riteing you a few Lines to inform you of the way and manner in which they are a treating the people in this County in the giving out the Rashions that you have sent to the people and also to inquire of you what sort of people that they are intended for and if those that are in charge have any order from you to give to the able bodyed freed men in prefference to the poor widdows and I want to now also if the federal soldiers that entered then county and was Robed by the rebels of all that they had has any rite to anything if so i want you to rite to me soon or they allow all of the of the men hear to know but the Man that fought for the Cause of his Countrys Rites  and if we poor boys that has large famalys of little children is allowed aything you would do us a great favor by Leting us now soon as some are suffering very bad at this time we also are Respectfuly informed the the agent for this County has bin offering freed women five dollar to whip poor white women we want to no if you approve  such conduct as that is not rite to me how these things should be caried on as the way they are doing some stunt young men with wif and one child is drawing as much mone as the poor widdow that has five an Little children this comes my nollege
