Sir, 
The furniture you alluded to a few days since is still at my house in the country. It's probably best I should say something about the way those articles came into my possession. About the time Pensacola was evacuated a friend of mine sent some of his own private property to me to take care of and at the same time three boxes of books from the N.S. Hospital at Pensacola were sent and as I suppose in confusion were put off at my together with some other articles such as old bureaus and some cargo looking glasses.
When Col Geddes first occupied Montgomery I went up and reported all the books and other articles which he took charge of except the looking glasses most of them broken and the other articles he said he would not take
