he intended to kill her. but from their own statements, they did not try to prevent Pryor from Hanging and whipping the Woman.
After Pryor had done whipping this Woman, and was on their way back to the House, Pryor remarked to Priam (this Woman's husband), that he (Pryor) had a notion to give him (Pryor) a whipping. Priam told Pryor, that he could not do it. Thereupon Pryor struck Priam over the head with his Gun and severely injured him, leaving him in the Road as they supposed dead, but on returning to him, he got up and came to his House
Mr Lee further states that the next morning or that evening Winne told him that she confessed this stealing from Pryor, in order to save her life, but that she was innocent. Both of those Negroes are gone but where they have gone I have not been able to assertain, although I have made many inquiries of the Black People.
Mr Geo Douglas was present while Mr Lee was making his statement, as above related by me. and acquiesed in all Mr Lee's statements- I have now given you all the particulars in this case that I have been able to obtain. And as the Grand Jury and Circuit Court for this County are now in Session at Greenville would it not be advisable to have Judge Porter call the Grand Jurys attention to this matter.
