Sir - Last winter my husband, George Bersigl a freedman was charged with stealing from a smoke house - and before he was arrested, I was taken up and put in jail and immediately afterwards, not knowing what would become of me, I gave my consent that my only child, a little boy about eight years of age, might be bound out to the jailer, Mr. Steven Wilson, - which was done - and my husbands children also by a former wife, was bound to the Sheriff at the same time. Since then, as I have been informed, my husbands children have been released, at your insistence. After my husband was arrested we were both brought out of the jail for trial the next day after I was committed, and I was immediately discharged by the Justice of the Peace.
