Gasport blank leo, Ala June 13th 1866.

Maj. Gen Swayne.

Sir.

I have the honor to ask you to use your great influence for me in getting a mail route from Evergreen to Bigbee River on State line via Monroeville, Claiborne. Suggsville, &c.

I was for three years a Lieut. in the 119th Regt Vols Inf. I have planted in this Co. but the high water has washed away my crop. I applied to my Uncle last winter (the Hon. Thomas Corwin of Ohio) for his route but his sudden death prevented me from getting it. And hearing you were a warm personal friend of my late Uncle's and also of Gov. Dennison's. I hope will be sufficient excuse for the liberty I have taken in this addressing you.
