R.D. Spann, who holds him by authority of a late order issued by you stating that all Horses and Mules given to freedmen by Yankees or picked up by them and carried to the plantation of their former masters and left there, were to be held until further orders from you.  More, another freedman, in the same place, claims a Mare, that his son John picked up on the Montgomery road.  This Mare was broken down and abandoned by the Yankees when he found her.  She was carried back to the plantation of Col. R. D. Spann and left there, and had been worked on said place in making the crop.  Mr. Spann now holds this Mare under your late order.

Another freedman- Caesar- who lives on the same place; Mr. Spann's brought a Pony back from the Army, that the Yankees had given to him.  The Poney had a very sore back.  This poney was carried back to the plantation of Col R.D. Spann - Caesar's master.  Caesar swapped this Poney to a Mr. Ja's. Meadows for 2 Cows and a Calf.  Afterwards a Mr. Cookson, a Yankee who was riding over this County and Keeping order on the plantations, took this Poney from Mr. Meadows and gave him to Mr. Spann's daughter, and the Poney is now on the plan-
