On the 6th of August last a freedman came to this Office from near Macon to complain of an assault & battery on him by his employer Joseph Little. There came with him two other freedman by name of Guy and Jake, as witnesses to the assault. After they started, their employer went before Esq. Henry A. Taylor J.P. at Macon Station and swore out a warrant for the arrest of the two witnesses as vagrants. They were arrested on their return, fined fifty dollars and sent to jail. After staying in jail three or four days, a gentleman by name of Ridgeway paid their fine
