General,
Enclosed hearwith I have the honor to transmit you a letter from Mrs E T Henley of whom Capt Hapstanstall, leased the Plantation now in our possession. It appears that there was on the Planation when Capt Hapstanstall took possession Corn in the ear estimated at (375) three hundred and seventy five bushels, that young Henley and Lieut Gibson made an arrangement for Gibson to use the Corn on the place and give Henley Corn and Oats in Demopolis, as he (Gibson) drew from the quartermaster, the same amount as that used by Gibson
When Gibson & Hapstanstall were released Henley wished me to carry out Gibsons bargain with him which I positively refused to do (or to allow my Q.M. Lt OConnor to do) as Henley clamed that Gibson orred him for about (100) one hundred bushels of Corn more than he had returned to Henley we of course
