mules under my orders, for Livingston and I have never seen him since. Last Monday morning about one oclock I learned Alfred was killed on Jenkin's plantation before referred to- On Enquiry I learned from Mr. Croom that Alfred reached Livingston Friday evening in time to return to Jenkin's that night on his way home- that Croom told him to do so, and stay all night at Jenkins', and use his (Croom's) corn to feed his mules- I then learned from Jenkins that on Friday night, that Jake told him that Alfred had stopped at the creek with his team, on the road near Jenkin's Quarters, and he Jenkins told Jake to say nothing, but let him come in the Quarters, and then to come up and tell him- He Jenkins said he had formerly told Jake, that if Alfred ever came on his place again he intended to kill him- that some time between dusk and midnight Jake came to his house and informed him that Alfred was there in one of the houses at the Quarters- that he Jenkins tried to wake up one of the prisoners (Truman), but he was hard to wake; and a man named Cook who was their, awoke and said he would go- that he told Cook and King (another prisoner) to take the Dogs and go and drive Alfred off- That Cook took a double blld shot gun with buck shot, and Joseph King took a "five shooter" pistol and left with Jake
