The indigent report sent up from this county falls far short of the actual number of destitute in the county.
the Report states the no of Families to be about 450 with an aggregate of 1500 while the true Statement is about 1400 families with an aggregate of our 5000 neither of these figures include the Freedmen, who number around 1000 most of whom are destitute.
You can from these figures see that the supply furnished by the figures just given will not be equal to the demand. All the Provisions sent to the County up to this time have been received at the Court House & those living in that vicinity has generally receved the provisions while those living at remote distances from town seldom receive anything I am satisfied that not an individual whose name is on Mr K's Petitions has drawn a pound though many of them have had more than half rations of bread (& no meat)in four weeks If you can do anything for us or say anything to Genl S in our behalf it will greatly oblige a Suffering people
I am Sir
Very Respectfully &c
