Tuscaloosa Ala April 16th 1866. Col. C. Cadle Asst. Adjt. General. Colonel; I have the honor to report that I arrived at this place on the evening of the 12th inst. Capt Cogswell had made preparations to leave the same evening - but ascertained an officer had arrived to relieve him, and waited until the next morning. I had scarcely time to properly receive the Records of his Office- say ing nothing of the verbal instructions, suggestions &c which would be so valuable to one entering upon the duties of my office.
