I have the honor to make the following report of a disgraceful affair, which occurred on the border of this town last night.  

Lawrence Berry (Col'd) an agent of the paper called the Nationalist, came to me Saturday Apr. 14th and showed his authority to canvas for the subscriptions to the same, with the approval-by order-of the General Swayne.  I informed Berry that I would give him support and protection in his mission, to the extent of my ability. 
 
Early this morning complaint was made to me, that two (2) prominent business men of this town, John Glascock and Robert Yates, headed a party of "roughs,"(late Rebel Soldiers &c) some of them armed, visited the house of Mr William Drisk (Col'd) and demanded
