My dear Colonel,
I acknowledge my obligations, for your flattering communication of the 18th Inst. I have endeavored so to act, in both, in private and public position as to feel I was just and impartial; and to obtain the approbation of such gentlemen, as General Swayne, and yourself, is I am sensible, approaching the point of my ambition.
