United States Commissioners were authorized under the act of Congress of 1812, but the passage of the Civil Rights Bill, renders it important to have one, in this office, who will do right: and I feel it my duty to propose to take the appointment, from fear it may fall into improper hands. I am sure that any one of my contemporaries at the Bar of Alabama, would, if necessary, recommend me.
