Office Asst. Supt. R. F. and A. L.
Tuscaloosa Ala. Sept. 14 1866.

Bvt. Major O.D. Kinsman
Asst. Adjt General
Montgomery Ala.

Major:

I have the honor to state that one (1) murder and one (1) supposed murder has been reported to me.

The first case occured in the field during daylight. A Black man was at work picking or gathering fodder - when a double barreled gun was discharged. The charge of each barrel taking effect upon the black man and killing him.

Suspicions fall upon John D. Haley a miserable negro hater who lives in the vicinity - as the Guilty Party. The second case is that of a White and Black having a difference and the Black has not been seen or heard of since.

These cases occured within this District about two (2) weeks since - I do not know of any steps being taken

Transcription Notes:
is there a period after Ala?
