Lieut.

An old Freedman called on me yesterday for information relative to entering public lands.

He wishes to enter and settle upon two party acre lots in Sumter Co. which as near as he can ascertain are situated five miles from Belmont (S.W.) and two and one half miles north of the S. & M. R.R.  One "party", he thinks, lies west of and adjoins the N.W. Car. Sec. 16, the other party likes North of and adjoins the N.W. Car. Sec. 16.  A part of one of the lots is cultivated by one of the neighbors, a white man who was too old to go into the Army, but who does not live upon it.

Unless he can get this lot he dont want
