Jackson Miss Nov 24, 1866 Hon'l Benajah S. Bibb Montgomery Ala My Dear Sir, Enclosed I send you a letter which I have just rec'd from a friend in Demopolis. You will now see for yourself how I am treated by those men. As for the property being on the Quartermaster' books that is hardly probable & even if it is so there is no reason why it should, and then why should [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] one part of it be on Qr Master books & not the other when it is all your as near together nearly as your dwelling house & kitchen. And you see the idea of using the property as a Small Pox Hospital - why could not they build a hospital a small building of a room or two, instead of using that with six rooms. It is an outrage, that seems to me that Genl Swayne would not consent to. The property I could have sold at one time for $5,000. The sash now all out, plastering broken down, doors down, fences burnt up, weatherboarding pulled off & still keeping it. I doubt if I had it in possession to day if I could get 1500 Dollars for it. Please see Gen'l Swayne & explain to him how it is. Yrs very truly, T.A. Philips
