of three plantations and the prices asked for them. When you returned he was to forward me instructions as to leasing one for Asylum purposes. Since then the "Stuart place" has been leased for $2745.00 money rent. The next best place is the "Karnegay" or "Nettleton" place three miles from Demopolis with good buildings. Cabins, &c. with plenty of wood, water, and timber for building more cabins if necessary. Price $2,000.

The other is the "Murphee place", seven or eight miles from town. Great scarcity of wood, good water, with but five or six old cabins, and no timber to build more. Price $1500.

I think the "Karnegay Place" would be much the cheapest to Govt in the end and more suitable for the purpose intended. We can commence moving there immediately before the roads get bad, and be established in our new quarters by the 1st of January
