are the widowed of the soldiers, who are mostly burdened with helpless children. It is for them that I now invoke the executive aid, and ask you to assist them if in the honor of your excellency. They are truly objects of pity, and humanity will honor itself by affording them all the relief possible. Will your excellency please inform me if anything can be done for them, by way of legislative appropriations? Without some aid is afforded them in some way they will certainly suffer. There is not enough corn in this portion of the County to afford them any relief. Any aid afforded them will be most gratefully received.

Respectfully yours &c
