Mayor

I have the Honor to inform you that many years ago the following described lot in the City of Selma was donated to the city for School purposes, which is known as that part of out lot number twenty six (no 26) on Sylvan and Alabama Streets, north of the Fulton Foundry known as the School lot in the city of Selma, which lot was held by the city as a School lot, at the commencement of the late war; that during the war the Military authorities of the Confederate States, used and Occupied said lot for military purposes; when the United States forces under command of Genl Wilson captured the city, finding said lot occupied by the Confederate States for military purposes, the military authorities took possession of said lot as confiscable property and have from thence hitherto occupied and still hold said lot as confiscable property, That no proceedings have been commenced to confiscate the same. Said lot is of right the property of the city, and the city holds the same in trust for educational purposes, and respectfully requests the restoration of the possession of the lot, that it may be used for the purposes for which it was donated.
