Near Iuka Miss July 18 1866

This is to the commander of the Post at Louisville KY.   I was driven from home and I hav bin a good soldier I went home to Ala and found all of my houses Burnt and my fevler hall off and found some of my cows but cood not git Them The Rebs said tha wod not let me bak thare I want help to git them and the rebels ar kilen the Negros and the Union soldiers i cant liv at home in ala franklin County ala Per Tuscumbia if I can git 10 soldiers to go with me I can git my property a US soldier cant git I slay her I don Pot abet to doo much work I have bin wounded 6 times if I can git help to git My property i can do biter My land is up thear the Rebs has got all all I want is help to git my property I proved my property their tha wold not let me hav hit tha said when I got soldiers to com tha wod giv them up yours truley a discharged US soldier 1st Ala Cav
