Dear Sir:
I am a widow with Eight children without the means of a support, without any relatives in Alabama who can assist me, and I am without the means to take me and my children to the state of Texas. Where I have relatives, who have promised to assist me if there and who I am sure would 
assist me. My present embarassed condition has been produced by causes beyond my control - and by the treatment received from the forces of the. U.S... under such circumstances I have been advised that the offices of the Government would give myself and children transportation to Texas where I may be able to obtain the means of a support and I have been advised to address you upon the subject. My relatives reside about Fifty miles from Houston Texas in Montgomery County - permit me therefore to request that this application from a Disconsolate widow and Eight orphan children may receive your favorable consideration, and that you may send to me at Cross Keys in Macon County Ala. transportation for myself and children from Shorters Depot on the Montgomery & West Point Rail Road to Danville Montgomery County Texas and much oblige a widow in need.
