had requested of him he says he knows he had no right to detain her and would not have attempted it but he thought that by so doing she might not go. Mr. Hayes does not claim this last named family in his petition altho he has Contracted for them with a person who had no authority to handle such a contract, but is asking for the children of this man who claims to be their father. He said freedmen now have a good home and kind and Humane employer & one able to take good care of them and protect them, but they have rights & I am willing to see that they have them if I know how to secure them- I have now State the case and as Mr. Moores son has to go to Montgomery send this letter by him and hereby request any information and advice you may deem proper to give in the premises- I would also request that you send me such Circulars and orders as you have on hand to share as we have nothing of the short to direct us here except what you gave me (old ones) when I was in Montgomery last.
