Greenville Ala April 2nd 1866

I have the honor very Respectfully to submit, that in the latter part of Nov. 1865, I had in my Employment a freedman named Henry who assaulted another Freedwoman in my Employment also. - Soon after the difficulty occurred The woman complained on oath to a Magistrate and had Henry arrested and committed to the Jail of Butler County to answer to whatever Indictment the Grand Jury of said County should find against Him. Before the Session of the Circuit Court in Butler County upon its application of John T. Long Shff Henry was sent to the Jail of Lowndes County for [[Sofr.?]] striping and being confined at home. I could not go to Greenville while Henry was in Jail there, but on the 27' Dec 1865 Myself and J.M. Thigpen went to Hayneville Lowndes County with Instruction from the Shff. of Butler County to take the Freedman Henry out of Jail upon the Bond I had made - but the Shff of Lowndes County Refused to Release the Boy Henry without an order from [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] Judge John-
