Colonel,
Being released from arrest, provided that I will remain in the City of Montgomery Ala., I would very respectfully ask to be permitted to go this evening per Rail to Greenville Ala. in order to arrange some private business, wich I left unsettled while arrested at said place. - I pledge to you my word and honor as an officer of the U.S.A. that I will return to Montgomery Ala. Wednesday Morning Aug. 8th 1866 and will report to you immediately on my return.
