General
[[Circular seal inscribed "The National Archives of the United States"]]
I made know your proposal; of evicting Home colonies provided the Counties would buy this land & house. The possessions over to the Bureau, to the care [[?]] of Russel and Dallas Russel has acted upon the proposal and in a few days will purchase land in the vicinity of Silver Run on the Mobile Gerard R.R. The Commissioners for Dallas suggested I should have the proposal laid before them in writing where they would accept it in form and turn the land over to you ++ Please General have it sent to Judge John F Connolly[[stike out]]th[[strike out]] at Selma who will lay it before the Commissioners and do what is necessary in the premisses I was in Montgomery a few days since and called to attend to this matter in person but it was Thanksgiving day and you held no office that day I have only to give thanks that my old negroes will not under the proposed arrangement perish in the highways. I have sold the land from under them
Your obedient servant J A Shother
