Asst. Supt. R.F. & A.L.
Talladega, Ala. May 19th 1866.

Major!

I have the honor to acknowledge Receipt of Yours of 11th inst. directing me not to recognize in any way the Militia Organization here; When its Services were offered I did neither accept nor refuse; but informed the Commanding Officer of the force, that my Instructions from the General in charge of this State directed me to request in case of necessity the assistance of U.S. troops.

To make the blind, crippled & old Negroes available in erecting House as Home Colonies is impossible; but I may be able to spare my own employees for one or two hours daily in order to put up the House and digg the Well by and by.

I have the honor to be, Major
Very respectfully
Your obt. Servant
