My visits to some of the large Planters in this County in July and in this month have been productive in the establishment of (self-sustaining) Freedmen Schools, of which Three will commence operation on or immediately after the 1st of September.- One of the teachers, a Mr. Merrill expects to instruct from 80 to 100 children; his Schoolhouse was completed yesterday, being situated 16 miles from this town, and within from 1 to 2 miles of the extensive plantations of Judge Cook, Mr. Player, Mr. Pope; the other, two, Schools to be established are nearer Talladega, with about 35 Scholars each.

To the teachers I promised the co-operation and protection of the U.S. Government; upon which they rely, requesting certificates to that effect. I also introduced them to some of the Gentlemen in Authority here, who promised their influence in behalf of these institutions.- The Court of Probate, adjusting the Minor Criminal. Cases, between Freedmen's White People is productive of much good in inspiring the farmer with the hope, that ultimately they may be permitted to enjoy their
