General,
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 18th sent with reference to the statements made by Capt. E.P. Graves A.Q.M. at Mobile Ala., and in reply Maj. Genl. Howard directs me to inform you that the Secty. of War, upon hearing of the language of the Q.M. at Mobile, said that he would dismiss any Officer guilty of such conduct. As however you report that this gentleman in performing satisfactory duty under the Bureau, the papers will be filed, and no further action taken, unless you should report some new offence on the part of Capt. Graves.
