Troy, Ala. March 5th/66.

Gen. W. Swayne

Dear Sir: the bearer Mr Thomas M. Brantley visits the city in relation to some matters which transpired between himself and the Military Authorities at Greenville one day last week. Mr. Brantley is the agent appointed by the the court of County Commissioner (one of them) to distribute the rations furnished for the destitute of this county; and, it affords me pleasure to bear testimony of his high standing as a gentleman and good citizen of our county. He is also a very sober discreet man and originally a Union Man in the days of Secession. He complains, that great injustice has been done him in Greenville in arresting him and holding him in close confinement over a day, and without any specific charge preferred.

Knowing your determination to deal out even-handed justice to all - I have advised Mr. Brantley to make his complaints directly to you. I can not believe in the absence of proof that he has done anything justifying such harsh treatments. I am very truly your Gen &c A. N. Worthy
