Forkland Greene Co. Ala.
April 3d, 1866.

Gen. Swain,

Dear Sir:
Two young men, J. H. Medford and Harry L. Mason were arrested by the order of your agents at Demopolis, and taken from this county and sent to Selma. We would be glad if you would have the persons placed in our custody, immediately, and we pledge our honor they shall have a fair and impartial trial
We had no knowledge of the affair until they were arrested and sent off. Have hitherto done all in our power to maintain law and order, in our part of the County, and if the Military will cooperate with us, we pledge ourselves to do so in future.

Very Respectfully Yours,
M. W. Hand, J.P.
A. Macohinney.
