As the appropriation is specific for the purchase of seeds, corn, &c. I am of opinion that in the event of any of the supplies being lost they could not be replaced, - except by a further appropriation by Congress - unless insured. 

Have met with a kind reception by the Pres. Chamber of Commerce, and other parties, they are aiding all they can to have the supplies furnished at a price below that ruling in the market 

There is an agent at the Adams Express Mr Bradley who is purchasing corn for Alabama and other states the share for Ala. is about as follows Tuscumbia Jno Powers 3,000 bush, - Mobile 5,000 Richardson-Montgomery 3,500 bush Lehman & Durr - he will furnish me a list of places & quantities to be sent by him, I expect that a modification of my shipping orders may be necessary to some extent in view of the above facts
