Gen Wager Swayne

Dear Sir

I drope [[drop]] you this letter in order to make some inquiry relative to what extent the Freedman's bureau would interpose in behalf of Freedmen in cases like the following. A minor son has been decryed from his father and taken into an adjoining county and there bound by the Judge of Probate until he comes twenty one years of age. the father having no notice of the proceeding until his child was bound out and then only from the child (or minor being fourteen years of age) who had tun away from bad treatment when upon inquiry he finds his child taken away from him. Secondly I wish to know if the Freedmans bureau will not interpose in this kind of case a woman has a family of five or six children the two oldest only are able to work the balance are unable to assist the mother the two oldest are taken and bound out, by the probate court untill they are twenty one years old. the mothers energies taxes to support the younger ones. Such cases as the above are in Cherokee County Ala. Direct your communications to me at Hokes Bluff Ala

Yours Respectfully
W. H. Archer
