had disputed his word when infact as I am informed by the gentleman that went with Crankfield was Simply Stating over the contract as he understood it. I learn from Jones neighbors that he will not settle with them fairly and is endeavoring or frighten them, to lean them out of their years work I told Crankfield that he could sue Jones before a justice of the peace but he is of the opinion that he could not get justice as very few justices like to sit on cases where a white man and Freedman are the parties. I have however done only what he requested me to do by writing to you and if you can do any thing for the aggrieved party it will be best as a visit from the Federal authorities at this time would have a satistory effect. Also the parties live near Gilberts Ferry on the Coosa River and Gilberts ferry is only some six miles below Gadsen on said river. Yours Respectfully
