our knowledge expended at least six hundred dollars in fortuitous expenditures that was not authorized by the bondsman for which he now fails to give any satisfactory account other than that the "brick kiln was stolen, & the lumber was lost" when we can prove that the Brick & lumber went into a certain Banking building in this town and the flooring also went into the same building and now this Rev. Mr L. claims that the lumber & brick were stolen which we know to be eronius & false our object is to see that they are not! The Col'd Brethren are not likewise foold by him in Montgomery ala and we ask you as a friend to the Colored people to see that they are not! The Col'd people of this place could die for you or Genl Calas but we can't stand by & sustain such men as this Lakin he pretended to be our friend until he got all we had and now he wants what we make next ear [year] Yet we axs [ask] you to see that he is published to the people of your town as rascal of the deapest deps I am a preacher of the gospel as I understand it and am requested to write this to you I am a Colored man and was once a slave but am now free before god and man and will defend those rights.
