Hayneville March 12th, 1867

Genl

I presume Mr Gardner will make his Report in a day or two "in regard to the Free Schools" I was by appointment to have met him at the R. Road to day and to have gone in Company with him, but my health has been bad for some weeks and the bad weather makes it necessary that I should stay in doors near the fire. I have been in consultation with him frequently lately; He has been active and faithful in discharge of the work assigned him and I am satisfied his Report will be correct and may by relied on in every particular I am very much pleased with the manner he has given to work. He has shown a zeal and Interest that is commendable. You will find him a very intelligent Gentleman fully alive to the work.

Genl, I am anxious to see and have a long talk with you and as soon as the weather moderates I will try to get to the city.
