General Pope or General Swain or whom this may concern I right this for to no the tru State of the Cace I shall state
I had a Woman [page torn]
me at the time of the surrend
She went off to Wetumpka She had three Children I raised her by my bed Side and alway kept her to tend in the house after She got of She wanted me to take her back and take her three Children and rais them till they was grown but before She got back She was taken sick and died They sent for me and when I got there she was dead I getherd up her Children to carry home and Some of the Coled people Said I should not have them they had no Father nor Mather to Care for them I would not get into a difficulty with black peape and I left them there till the Law said they hould be bound out I then went accoring to the Law and have them bound to me and went and got them legally and when I went one of them was
