Moulton, Ala July 13, 1867

Genl Wager Swayne
Comd'g Dist Ala
Montgomery Ala

General:

I wrote you yesterday from Decatur giving the progress of the work in Morgan and Limestone Counties. I left Decatur early this morning, and contrary to my expectations yesterday, came to Moulton. Here I found the Board of Registration in operation. The work is about half finished; I have had positive assurances from the members that their books shall be in Montgomery on 13th of August. According to the programme they will finish registering on 31st inst. They have books ad blanks and all necessary for a speedy completion of the work, but have not yet received their commissions. I wish they could be sent them at this place.

I am highly pleased with the Board here. They are competent, working men. Mr Rice will continue to act with the Board, and hereafter will be the chairman. Mr Leach is a person of fine clerical skill.
