while the wife, alone, was unable to support them. I agree with the intimation of Mr Hudspeth that some charity is due these people for offences of this character. The proper legal remedy in this case, I incline to think, will be by application to Judge Green, as under Section 1218 of the Code of Ala "The Judge of Probate may at any time for good cause make any letters of apprenticeship"

Simon's misfortune in these matters seems to have been only his inability to pay Attrys fee. His statement to me was that his only effort consisted in an application to Messr Oats & Bell Attys of Abbeville who proposed to take his case for One Hundred Dollars which he was unable to pay or secure. He had made application to no one else, previous to his letter to Genl Swayne. 
I will write again soon giving the result of my action.
